The Beginning
You will be interrupted. You will be challenged. Everything out there will be pulling you away from your core truth. Staying engaged with that core truth is the challenge. I’m starting this today because I feel a deep urge to share my truth, my wisdom. For myself more than anyone else. To explore themes through the written word. There are people that will give you all sorts of advice about how to live, how to write, how to be better. That advice is often not “wrong” per se, but it puts your power outside of yourself and in the hands of some external authority. Only you really know what it’s like to be you.
Your entire life has been spent with one person, yourself. Know thyself. Written at the entrance to the temple at Delphi. See also: Rilke’s line, “The only journey is the one within.”
We receive transmissions from people who went deep within and came back to this plane to share what they learned. That’s what I’m aiming to do here, with words that are mine or at least coming through me in this exact moment. Not for any sort of external approval or merit. Simply because it’s what I’m here to do. And I must do it. For myself. For this person that I’ve spent my entire life with: Me.
If discipline = freedom and Jiro Dreams of Sushi and all the world is telling you to create, like, subscribe, share, repost, comment, and generally stop living your own life so that you can support someone else’s, then we’re all missing the plot. The plot that says that the only way out is through and the only way through is within.
So many of these lines aren’t even my own. Lines I’ve heard spoken throughout my life experience that have resonated like a song stuck in my head on repeat. Steal like an artist.
There is a lot of peace in my solitude. Me and the blank page and the instrument of writing. Transmissions. To tell a great story, to hone one’s craft, to do one’s life’s work. It’s a mountain to climb, the hero’s journey, a daring undertaking. Pack your bags, we’re setting off now.
